General Information
Tunkwa Lake Resort, one of British Columbia’s premier fishing destinations!
Picturesque Tunkwa Lake is world famous for it’s extra large Kamloops Rainbow trout. And, because of the abundance and size of these trout, Tunkwa Lake was chosen as a venue lake for the 1993 World Fly Fishing Championships.
Tunkwa Lake’s elevation is 3,750’/1168m which can mean cool evenings even in mid-summer but we enjoy about 2000 hours of sunshine and warm days per year, and are fortunate to have very few mosquitoes or biting bugs. Our resort is surrounded by Provincial Park lands, adding to the peaceful setting. The surrounding area is a mixture of pine trees and open meadows with many hiking and biking trails leading from the resort, so bring your hiking boots and bicycles. The plentiful bird life includes numerous ducks, geese, owls, loons and prey birds. In the hills around the lake, you can find moose, both white tailed and mule deer, even an unique opportunity to view herds of wild horses! There are many wildlife photo opportunities. Quads, ATV’s and off-road motorcycles must be trailered off-site to unloading areas a couple minutes away, then hit the trails from there, they cannot be ridden out of the resort until later hunting season.
Resort Store
The Resort store stocks a few groceries and a good selection of tackle, including locally tied custom flies, bait, ice, munchies and souvenirs. There is a playground for children, horseshoe pits for adults, a boat launch is available for guests at no charge, with lots of shoreline to pull your boat up to. If you want to take your catch home we have free freezer space. Pets are welcome but please respect other guests. Dogs must be on a leash and under control. Dogs are permitted in the rustic cabins only, please keep them off the couches. Satellite based Wi Fi is available throughout the resort, available for a nominal fee.
Shower houses and Dish house
We offer both men’s and women’s shower house. These buildings are located to the left of the main lodge (store and office) and open year around! Both buildings are heated and include two separated stand up showers, two separate toilet areas and two sinks. Our heated dish house is located behind the men’s shower house and accommodates two full sized sinks, dish soap, SOS pads and scrub pads to use at your convenience 24 hours a day!
