Summers here! Finally…..
Warm, sunny and the trout are biting to! Lots of happy guests hooking up, many into good numbers of trout and some pretty decent sized ones as well.
Chironomids are starting to stage or hatch, anglers keyed in on this are doing very well. Most fish are in 10′ or less, and anywheres from right on the bottom, to 2′ above bottom. Productive patterns include MaroonJewels, Maroon/Green Butts, CopperTops, Cranberry Pink, and the Zucchini. Size 12 and 14’s have been best, but some reports of folks fishing bomber sized bloodworm patterns right on the bottom, doing very well to.
Caddis are starting to pop off fairly steady in the later afternoons and evenings, dialling on this hatch can provide some pretty hot action, including off the surface with dry flies, above the shallow weed flats.
Lots of damsels around, and a few anglers fishing these patterns, or dragonfly patterns have been doing well.
Mayflies are still hatching in the afternoons, especially if theres some unsettled weather approaching.
Trolling is still producing for our guests. Green wedding bands tipped with a fresh worm, has been productive. PumpkinHeads, Blue maroons and K-Marts have been good fly patterns to troll or wind drift. Kwikfish and Hotshots in the usual coloured patterns are working as well. Some really nice catches coming on the old worm and bobber to, even from right off our docks.
Some good reports coming in from other local lakes as well, with some good sedge hatches happening, beside the usual chironomids.
It’s a great time to be up here enjoying the weather and the great fishing!!!
