Fishing over the weekend was spotty as the unstable weather patterns have been moving through the Southern Interior. Fish were caught trolling using gang trolls with a piece of worm, Kwik Fish, Hot Shots and pumkinheads. The worm and float also caught fish over the weekend. Cooler temperatures lowered the water temperature which slowed the insect activity which slowed the activity for fish to feed. Damsel, Callibaetis(MayFlies) and caddis nymphs have been working well the past week but less over the weekend with the cooler weather pattern. Chironomids hatches have been spotty with some 14’s seen but mainly 16’s or smaller. Throat samples showed some small Gammarus scuds, small chironomids in green, lime and brown and bloodworms which would be #14 adult chironomids when they emerge. Guests reported some good success, fishing olive coloured BMW on the strip, in 10′ of water off the weed liners. High pressure is moving in today with rising temperatures for the upcoming week which will turn on fishing with insect hatches being more prolific. If casting and stripping damsel and caddis nymphs up your tippet strength as there has been flies being busted off by the hard hits of the Pennask Rainbows stocked in Tunkwa.
Reports from guests checking out this morning, said chironomid fishing had been very good for them, once they found the where the bugs where hatching from. Small sized flies the key..
