Winter has arrived at Tunkwa, some fresh snow with rapidly falling temperatures, and they are forecasting some record cold this week. It’s a good week to not be out on the lake, if the forecast is correct.
Fishing the past week has been a bit inconsistent, but trout are being caught. Fishing the shallower bays close to weed beds seems to be key, usually 7′-10′ deep. The fish start to move more and feed the last couple hours of the day, so it’s key to be out there right till dark. Krill or shrimp seem to be the bait of choice now. The ice is a good 9″ thick all over the lake, no slush to contend with either.
