Tunkwa Lake is ice free, water temps were already up to 48 last Monday but have dropped back down to 42 with the cooler weather pattern yesterday. Fish were caught on spinners, small chironomids and attractor patterns during the week. Afternoon chironomid hatches were large enough to attract the Barn swallows to feed even with the cooler water temps. One report of larger chironomids seen hatching, quite amazing even with cooler water some chironomid species hatched, they hatched in calm areas and not in wind/choppy waters.
