June 20/16

First day of summer and it sure feels like it at Tunkwa. Sunny, warm and calm, with trout jumping all over the lake!
Weather the past week was a bit up and down, but fishing remained pretty constant. Chironomids have been coming off, some days/times, pretty heavy. Mayfly hatches have been good in the afternoons. Lots of fishing success being reported by guests, with a variety of methods all working. Lots of 3 lb fish have been caufght by guests, with few pushing the 5lb mark coming to the boat, but released.

Trolling has been pretty consistent, dragging flies like the K Mart, 52 Buick, Doc Spratleys or the Green Bug, will get you into the fish. Plugs like a Kwikfish or HotShot are working, colours changing depending on the day. haven’t heard much success coming off wedding bands, or gang trolls.

Fly anglers are having good success with chironomids in smaller sizes, like 16 and 14. Static-Red rib, Gunmetal/black rib, SnowCone, and Zucchini patterns have all been producing for guests. Casting Mayfly nymphs(flashback’s or halfbacks) have been a good bet in the afternoon. Damsel imitators fished shallow around the weeds are working as well.

Emily with as nice trout caught at her family get together. She ended up catching the big fish for bragging rights.

Joedy hit nearby Logan Lake to get in on some good Mayfly and Caddis hatches, some nice Fraser Valley strain rainbows are in there, but they sure aren’t as pretty as the Pennaske Strain found in Tunkwa..
