Ice fishing pressure was very light on Tunkwa this past week, usual spots are still producing trout. Temps have been very warm in the day, but nights are still dipping below freezing, keeping the ice solid. The ice thickness is about the same 10-12″, but the top couple of inches are getting very soft during the warm days. A bit more open water can be seen around the edges, or where run off is entering the lake.Safe ice conditions should be good for another week or so.
This will be our last ice fishing report of this season, next reports will be updating as Tunkwa starts to ice off. We are anticipating seeing the ice go off Tunkwa the first week of April. Fishing is typically fantastic on Tunkwa at ice off, being a reservoir, we really don’t experience a ‘turn over’ on the lake. We are all super excited to kick off the open water fishery!
A couple nearby lakes at lower elevations have been fishing well the past while, providing the first kick at open water fishing..
